Bernard Kalubowila (1941 - 2014)
Commercial and Fine Artist
As a Commercial Artist, Bernard collaborated with Nelu's Advertising in Nugegoda, Sri Lanka, where he worked with prominent local and international brands, creating various forms of visual advertisements. He was particularly skilled in screen printing and hand-drawn advertisements. Alongside his professional work, Bernard pursued personal fine arts projects driven by his passion and hobby. His subject matter often revolved around nature, everyday life, and socio-political themes.
Isuru grew up in his maternal grandparents' house, where Bernard had established his personal and commercial art studios. This environment served as Isuru's artistic foundation, immersing him in the language of colors and brushstrokes from a young age. During a brief residency in London, UK, Bernard also collaborated with several clients and engaged in personal art projects. Following Bernard's passing, Isuru inherited the majority of his fine arts collection, which is now displayed in Isuru's homes in Homagama and Mattegoda, Sri Lanka. Bernard's artistic legacy lives on through Isuru's pursuit of becoming a successful fine artist, clearly influenced by his grandfather's aesthetics.
However, Isuru's passion for exploring the abstract realm has enabled him to develop his own unique artistic consciousness. This distinct drive sets Isuru apart and allows him to forge his own path in the art world while still acknowledging the impact of his grandfather's artistic style.
